Dorothy often created smaller 'esquisses' as exploratory studies before commencing work on larger canvases. One of her themes is 'sandhills' and in this small work, she plays with a linear movement, transitioning her lines between ochre colours.
The movement on this small work is refined to a simplicity that takes your eyes from one side of the canvas to the other and back again, whether it is viewed in a vertical or a horizontal perspective.
There is an interesting chapter on Sandhills - A Study on Sandhills
(from the publication Honouring and Remembering the Art and Life of Dorothy Napangardi).
Painting will be freighted on the stretcher frame ready to hang
