— History of Print Making

An international artist/printer collaboration

A major international print exchange project involving leading indigenous Australian artist Dorothy Napangardi, and Master Printers from renowned American print publisher Crown Point Press in San Francisco and Port Jackson Press Australia will be launched in the United States and Australia late in 2004. In early August, Dena Schuckit a senior printer from Crown Point Press travelled to Australia to collaborate with artist Dorothy Napangardi and printer Belinda Fox from Port Jackson Press to create a suite of colour aquatints.

The limited edition prints from this collaboration are:
DN-10, DN-11, DN-12, DN-13, DN-14, DN-15, DN-17, DN-18

Dorothy was to also work with other print studios including Northern Editions (Darwin, NT), Basil Hall Editions (Darwin, NT) and Belinda Fox Studios (Melbourne, VIC).

In addition to the above Limited Edition Prints of Dorothy Napangardi, Gallery Gondwana present from our archives and collection the following limited edition works. These rare works from the Gallery Gondwana collection are the last remaining ones, the few that were sold on their original release have not been seen back on the market. The following listed works are extremely rare and are not for sale, although we do welcome enquiries.

Japingka Aboriginal Art, Fremantle/Perth, Western Australia had a successful 2020 retrospective exhibition for Dorothy Napangardi (1952- 2013) that showed the artist’s journey towards the refined style of the later Mina Mina paintings that established her career as an outstanding artist.
