Product Details
"Amwekety" (2003) by Gracie Morton beautifully depicts the Bush Plum, or Santalum lanceolatum, a prostrate plant in the Santalaceae family. This plant features small, creamy-white flowers with four petals and olive-like fruits that change from green to purple to black as they ripen. These vitamin C-rich fruits can be eaten raw or cooked.

Gracie Morton's artwork is a delicate, multi-layered composition using fine dotting techniques that add depth and invite the viewer's eye to explore. The piece features beautiful golden and soft yellow ochre colors interspersed with white, creating a visually captivating effect.

Gracie Morton Pwerle is a member of the Alyawarre language group from Utopia, southeast of Alice Springs. She began her artistic career in 1978 with the Utopia Women’s Batik group, working alongside her great aunt, Emily Kngwarreye. Gracie's mother, Myrtle, was one of the famous seven Petyarre sisters, including Gloria and Kathleen Petyarre. In 1988, Gracie transitioned to using acrylic paints during a summer project offered by CAAMA.

Her surname is spelled variably (Pwerle, Pwerl, Purle, or Ngale) due to different linguistic interpretations.
