"Bush Leaf Medicine" by Margaret Scobie features beautiful movement and depth with emerald greens, deep pink, yellow, and white, capturing the essence of Bush Leaf Medicine. Margaret Scobie Petyarre hails from the Anmatyerre community, just north of Alice Springs, and belongs to one of the most renowned Aboriginal artistic families, including artists like Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre, Anna Petyarre, and Ada Bird Petyarre.

Born in 1948 at Woola Downs, Northern Territory, Margaret developed her unique style, painting a selection of her family's Dreaming stories, primarily focusing on “Bush Medicine Leaves.” She is drawn to vibrant colors, which bring her artwork to life.

Bush medicine leaves come from a particular native shrub that grows abundantly in the desert regions of Utopia, northeast of Alice Springs. Throughout its life, the plant's leaves change color and exhibit different medicinal properties. Bush medicine refers to the ancient and traditional Aboriginal use of native Australian botanicals for physical and spiritual healing, a practice that has been in existence for thousands of years.

Margaret's artwork not only highlights the medicinal importance of these leaves but also serves as a tribute to her cultural heritage, preserving and celebrating the ancient traditions of her people through her vibrant and meaningful paintings.
