Product Details
"Bush Plum, 2002" by Gracie Morton incorporates soft lines in the background, reminiscent of her great aunt Emily Kame Kngwarraye's early works. These lines, overlaid with delicate dotting, symbolise the journeys of the Bush Plum ancestors underground during the Creation Era, surfacing at sacred sites where ceremonies are held.

The Bush Plum Dreaming site is a significant Dreaming of the Utopia region. Gracie Morton’s painting is filled with the dry seeds of the native bush plum, a fruit that thrives in this area. The bush plums grows on a tall, straight, thin, broad-leaved tree. The fruit starts green and turns from purple to black as it ripens.

Gracie Morton Pwerle, from the Alyawarre language group in Utopia, southeast of Alice Springs, carries on the cultural heritage with her surname appearing in various spellings (Pwerle, Pwerl, Purle, or Ngale) due to different linguistic interpretations.

Curator’s Note: The painting’s colours change with different lighting, making it challenging to capture in photos. This dynamic quality adds depth and richness to Morton's work, highlighting her skill in conveying the cultural and natural heritage of her land.
