Product Details

Bush Turkey by Genevieve Loy Kemarre is a captivating artwork that intricately portrays the tracks of the bush turkey as it searches for seeds and makes its way to the waterhole. Genevieve, born in 1982 is a member of the Anmatyerre language group from the Utopia region of the Northern Territory. She learned the art of painting from her father, Cowboy Loy Pwerle, who was the senior custodian of the Bush Turkey story. Genevieve is the sister of Abie Loy, both award winning artists in their own right.

This painting goes beyond the visual depiction of the bush turkey's journey. It reflects the rich cultural traditions of the Anmatyerre people, particularly the women's ceremonies that are deeply connected to the land. Genevieve also includes the green plant Akwerlkerrmwerlkerr, which grows like a lawn along the road, and whose seeds are a favourite of the bush turkey.

Genevieve's work is characterised by her delicate marks that traverse the canvas along with her harmonious sense of colour offering viewers a profound connection to the landscape and the cultural heritage of Central Australia. As the granddaughter of artist Nancy Petyarre, Genevieve continues to uphold and evolve her family's artistic legacy.
