"Bushtucker" by Bonita Nungurrayi Williams beautifully captures the traditional practice of women gathering bush tucker, including goanna, honey ants, and berries. Her paintings are a vibrant celebration of bush foods, reflecting her deep cultural heritage. Bonita's art often features her totems, the goanna and snake, along with other bush foods like witchetty grubs, honey ants, and berries.

These totems are believed to have shaped the landforms and landscapes during the Creation Era, a time celebrated in various ceremonies.

Born in Alice Springs in 1971, Bonita has spent much of her life dedicated to preserving her heritage through art. Raised in Alice Springs and having traveled in Western Australia, she has been painting for about eight years, learning from her mother, an artist from Ti Tree who speaks Anmatyerre.

Married with four children, Bonita continues to honor her ancestry, passing down these traditions through her vibrant and meaningful artwork. Her paintings not only highlight the importance of bush foods but also serve as a tribute to her deep connection to her cultural roots.
