Byanambi & Kimoorlng River by Mignonette Jamin, born in 1932, a respected law woman who painted her traditional country - the rivers and billabongs, coastal areas, the hills, rocky ridges, roads and other land marks as well as sites significant to women's business which belonged to her deaming country at Majalindy.
Her paintings are in natural ochres and pigments from the Kimberley region of Western Australia and are known for their powerful composition and vibrant immediacy.
This is the artist’s traditional country in the top of the Northern Territory near the Western Australia border. This place is called Kimoorlng River. All the sharp pointed shapes around the painting represent hills and the coloured circles in the middle represent small and large billabongs. The light brown represents the plain country
