Product Details

Kaakuratintja (Lake MacDonald) by Tatali Nangala designs are associated with the travels of a group of women from the Kaakuratintja (Lake MacDonald) area eastward to the rockhole site of Tika Tika. As these women traveled, they gathered edible berries known as Kampurrarrpa (Bush Raisins, Solanum centrale) and Pura (Bush Tomato, Solanum chippendalei), and they also hunted goanna.

Tatali Nangala was born west of Kintore and moved to Papunya during the 1960s, where she later married Charlie Tararu, a founder of the Western Desert painting movement. She began painting during the women's workshop at Haasts Bluff in 1994. Alongside Inyuwa Nampitjinpa, she developed the minimalist style that became the foundation of Pintupi women's art.

In 1996, Tatali Nangala, along with her cousin and painting companion Makinti Napanangka, began painting for Papunya Tula Artists. At a time when many art historians and critics believed the Papunya Tula painting movement had run its course, the emergence of women artists revitalized the movement, bringing new life and inspiration.

Her works are included in prestigious collections such as the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
