"Karntakurlangu (Women's Dreaming) (Diptych), 2000" by Dorothy Napangardi marks a significant moment in the artist's career, being part of her first diptych series. This shift was inspired during a trip to Canberra with fellow artist Walala Tjapaltjarri for an exhibition at the Alliance Française. The artists were particularly impressed by the French Embassy's display of banners featuring their work. This experience encouraged them to experiment with panels, exploring new forms and compositions upon their return to Alice Springs.

The diptych’s subject matter centres around Mina Mina, a significant women’s Dreaming site and a recurring theme in Napangardi’s art. Mina Mina is deeply connected to her personal history, as she lived a traditional, nomadic life in this area until her early teenage years. In 1998, Napangardi returned to Mina Mina with her aunties to perform rituals, a transformative experience that greatly influenced her artistic evolution.

"Karntakurlangu (Women's Dreaming)", which as a diptych measures 61x62cm), exemplifies Napangardi’s unique style, blending innovative contemporary techniques with traditional Aboriginal storytelling. This work showcases her mastery of form, movement, and the delicate balance between ancestral narratives and abstract visual language.

Featured in the monograph Honouring and Remembering the Art and Life of Dorothy Napangardi, 1987-2013 , this diptych is a testament to the artist’s enduring legacy. A copy of the monograph is included with the purchase, offering deeper insight into Napangardi's artistic journey and the cultural significance of her work.
