"My Country" by Selina Napaltjarri Malbunka is a captivating representation of her ancestral land in the Tanami Desert, depicted in a maze-like configuration. This intricate pattern mirrors the challenging nature of the landscape, where few distinct features make navigation difficult. Selina, born circa 1970 in Hermannsburg (Ntaria), carries a rich artistic heritage as the granddaughter of the esteemed Polly Napangardi Watson. Her unique style draws inspiration from Timmy Payungka, a pioneer of the Papunya painting movement, who also favoured maze-like designs to illustrate his connection to the land.

Hermannsburg, historically established as a mission by German Lutherans in the late 1800s, is a culturally significant community and the birthplace of the renowned painter Albert Namatjira. This area continues to thrive artistically, with Selina contributing to the Hermannsburg Potters, where she has worked as an Assistant Manager. Her work not only honours her family's artistic legacy but also embodies the rich cultural history of the region.

Selina's "My Country" serves as a vivid portrayal of the Tanami Desert's enigmatic landscape, resonating with her deep connection to the land and its spiritual significance, while also highlighting her contributions to the ongoing cultural and artistic traditions of Hermannsburg.
