Pirlinyanu Site - Water Dreaming 2004 by Julie Nangala Robertson depicts a significant Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming) site, known for its deep rock holes that preserve life-giving water even during dry times. Traditional knowledge, passed down through generations, reveals the locations of these valuable water sources, crucial for survival in the desert landscape. This rocky outcrop is located in the Tanami Desert, west of Yuendumu and towards the WA border.
Julie Nangala Robertson has continued to explore and develop her artistic talents, culminating in her being awarded the prestigious Telstra Aboriginal Art Award for Best Painting in August 2023.
The eldest of five daughters of esteemed artist Dorothy Napangardi Robinson, Julie recently changed the spelling of her surname to Robertson. She believes her father, Windy, misspelled it, and this adjustment aligns her name with her relatives in Yuendumu. Windy had two wives, Rene and Dorothy Robinson, and this change honors her family's heritage and ensures accuracy in her identity. Julie’s work is a testament to her rich cultural legacy and artistic brilliance.
