Product Details

"Pirlinyanu Site - Water Dreaming" by Julie Nangala Robinson is a delicate, small-scale painting that offers an aerial perspective of an important Water Dreaming site linked to her father's traditional country of Pirlinyanu. This rocky outcrop, located in the Tanami Desert west of Yuendumu and near the WA border, holds significant cultural value.

The painting pairs beautifully with its sister piece, Catalogue 11165JR, both set against a striking white background. Julie's work, celebrated for its extraordinary optical brilliance, showcases her skillful use of varying dot sizes and the meticulous construction of shapes and reference points through repeated dotting.

In August 2023, Julie Nangala Robinson was honored with the Telstra Aboriginal Art Award for Best Painting, recognizing her artistic excellence. Her depiction of Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming) reflects deep traditional knowledge, illustrating the rain's movement over the rocky outcrop and the crucial rock holes that provide water in this arid landscape.

Julie, the eldest of Dorothy Napangardi Robinson's five daughters, recently corrected the spelling of her surname to Robertson. She believes her father, Windy, misspelled it, aligning her name with her relatives in Yuendumu. Windy Robinson had two wives, Rene and Dorothy, making this adjustment a tribute to family heritage and accuracy.

Painting will be freighted stretched canvas on frame with MDF board for protection
