Product Details

Titled "Salt Country etching 2002", Dorothy Napangardi has created striking black and white designs that depict the crustations that form when rainwater recedes in the claypans of her ancestral country, Mina Mina which is located near the great salt lake, Lake Mackay in the Tanami Desert, north of Yuendumu in the Northern Territory.

Knowledge of how to read these crustations is important in the search for underground water and this information is passed on in song cycles and ceremonies to those of the Napangardi and Napanangka sub-section groups (aunt / niece relationship, the custodians of this country.
