Salt etching by Dorothy Napangardi DN-4.2
In this glorious etching titled "Salt", the artist Dorothy Napangardi has chosen to use a white background to show the light and luminosity of the dry claypans after a period of rain that are marked with crustations of salt forming interesting patterns and showing the discerning eye where to dig for underground water. This is Dorothy Napangardi's ancestral country, Mina Mina, an important women's ceremonial site, near the great salt lake of Lake Mackay, on the border of Northern Territory and Western Australia.
