"Sandhill Country" by Dorothy Napangardi is a captivating limited edition etching that portrays the ever-shifting sandhills of Mina Mina, the artist's ancestral country near the Northern Territory and Western Australia border. The etching vividly captures the chaotic, wind-blown sands that continuously reshape the landscape, symbolising both the beauty and challenges of accessing this sacred land.
Part of a limited edition suite of three etchings, each piece can be sold separately. Together, they depict various topographical and spiritual elements of Mina Mina, reflecting Napangardi’s deep connection to her homeland and cultural heritage.
This etching was produced in collaboration with Crown Point Press (CPP). Senior printmaker Dena Schuckit traveled from San Francisco to work closely with Napangardi in Australia, following a recommendation by fellow artist Belinda Fox, who admired Napangardi’s exceptional talent after her 2001 Telstra National Aboriginal Art Award win. Supported by Roslyn Premont and Lotte Waters of Gallery Gondwana, Napangardi finalised this highly sought-after series.
Etching DN-18 is a limited edition of 50, with a paper size of 22.2 cm x 22.8 cm and an image size of 12 cm x 10.1 cm, printed on Somerset Satin White paper. This collectible etching showcases Napangardi's artistic mastery and her deep-rooted connection to her land.
