Product Details

"Spinifex Country" by Dorothy Napangardi is a limited edition etching that depicts the beautiful movement in the wind of the giant spinifex ( Triodia longiceps ) that grows throughout the desert region. These giant spinifex can grow taller than people in the artist’s custodial country of Mina Mina located near Lake Mackay on the border of Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Part of a limited edition suite of three etchings, each piece in the set can be sold separately. Together, they depict various topographical and sacred elements of Mina Mina, showcasing Napangardi's deep connection to her ancestral land.

This etching was created as part of a special collaboration between Napangardi and Crown Point Press (CPP). Senior printmaker Dena Schuckit traveled from San Francisco to work with Napangardi in Australia, following a recommendation from artist Belinda Fox, who recognised Napangardi’s talent after her 2001 Telstra National Aboriginal Art Award win. With support from Roslyn Premont and Lotte Waters of Gallery Gondwana, Napangardi completed this highly collectible series.

Etching DN-16 is a limited edition of 50, with a paper size of 22.2 cm x 22.8 cm and image size of 12 cm x 10.1 cm, printed on Somerset Satin White paper and is a stunning testament to Napangardi’s artistic brilliance
