Women gathering Bush Tucker by June Sultan depicts bush bananas, tomatoes, honey ants, (which apart from being very tasty have been used for thousands of years as medicine for sore throats) and witchetty grubs ( Endoxyla leucomochla ), large, white, wood-eating larvae of several moths which are eaten either raw or cooked.
Women, represented by the U shapes are depicted beside their gathering bowls (coolamons) and digging sticks.
June Sultan is of the Kaytetye clan from Barrow Creek in the Northern Territory. She is part of a talented artistic family including musicians and painters.
