Dhuwarrwarr Marika is a senior Yolngu woman from East Arnhem Land. She is a member of the Rirratjingu clan and sister of printmaker Banduk Marika. Her famous father, Mawalan, taught her to paint and she continues to depict many of his designs. However, Dhuwarrwarr uses her imagination to develop his ‘ideas and give them a contemporary look. She is a senior statesperson for her people and has worked on numerous Land Council and womens’ committees.

This lino print, hand cut by Dhuwarrwarr using a razor blade, represents the salt water between the mainland and Bremer Island, (near Yirrkala) where she spends a good deal of time painting on bark and teaching her children and grandchildren.
