Artist Dorothy Napangardi with artwork Sandhills (2003) - 91 x 122 cm - Cat 8250DN

Using a focused rhythm of white, ochre and soft blue coloured dots set against a black background, Dorothy has created a shifting sea of wonderfully harmonious motion that gathers and disperses across the canvas.

As with all this artist’s work, this painting revolves around the sacred site of Mina Mina, the land in the remote Tanami Desert of which Dorothy is custodial owner which is made up of two enormous soakage areas and endless sandhills.

Here women of the Napangardi and Napanangka kinship groups perform rituals of dance and song as part of their passing on of traditional knowledge related to the Jukurrpa (the Dreaming).

As with most of Dorothy’s paintings, they are aerial views of her country Mina Mina. This work can be hung in any orientation.
