The granddaughter of Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri, one of the founders of the early Papunya Tula artists, Janelle Stockman was a very contemporary and inspirational artist that painted from her life experiences more than the telling of her traditional cultural knowledge.

Her promising career was cut short at a young age with her tragic and untimely death in 2009.
