This painting titled ‘Women’s Ceremony’ depicts the swamp and rockhole site of Ngaripungkunya, west of the Kiwirrkura Community. In mythological times a large group of women camped at this site before travelling east, passing through Kiwirrkura and then north-east to Tarkul and Lake Mackay.
Here the women are made up with body paint and are performing a ceremony for this country, to which they are custodians. The large central motif symbolises a large ceremonial dancing board.
