Pirlinyanu, 2010 (Limited Edition Etching) by Julie Nangala Robertson PRINT-JR-01

Julie depicts her Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming), which is associated with her father’s traditional country of Pirlinyanu, a rocky outcrop in the Tanami Desert, west of Yuendumu and towards the WA border.

An intensive printmaking workshop held in Alice Springs early in the year 2010 was the catalyst for a unique intersection of ideas and artistic expression in print, across cultures. The artists involved was the celebrated artist Dorothy Napangardi, her daughter Julie Nangala Robinson, Mitjili Napanangka from Central Australia and Rusiate Lali from Fiji. For the latter three artists, it has been their first ventures in the print medium with astounding results.

The resulting works showcasing new etchings and screen prints were presented at Northern Editions from Monday, 9 August 2010 in an exhibition 'Nexus - A collaboration in print from Central Australia and Fiji'. The exhibition was included and officially launched as part of the Darwin Festival program, Charles Darwin University’s Northern Editions on Saturday, 14 August, 2010.
